We thought we'd repeat our Episode #11 with Johanna Ware upon notice that she's closing smallwares as of 9/24. This heartbreaking announcement comes amidst other closures this year, which we discussed with Kurt Huffman on RATF back in January.  In this interview from March 2014, Chef Ware touches on some of the issues around her closing.

Ken Gordon, owner and Chef of Portland's Kenny & Zuke's Delicatessen, opened his first restaurant two blocks east of Thomas Keller in New York City in 1986. The two dined at each others' restaurants.  We cover one of their histories here, which includes the disappointment of microwaved corned beef, the joy of hand-sliced pastrami, why Portland isn't the best walking city in the country, and two offspring on exciting career paths.

#87 Brian Spangler - Apizza Scholls (w/Janis Martin)

Brian Spangler's ascension into the psyche of Portland through his acclaimed and loved pizza started with the dough, learning how to bake in northern California while in college.  That led him to buy an Oregon Farm, the Portland Farmers Market, a pub, and then to Hawthorne Blvd.  He shares his story and Chick Fil A sandwiches with us, which for this episode, includes his friend Janis Martin of Tanuki sitting in to join in the conversation.
